Joan Fausellas

Joan Fausellas

Born in Vilafreser in 1951, in the 1980s he moved to Girona. He exhibited his first works at drawing fairs. In 1978 he opened his own art gallery in Empuriabrava, under the name Galeria Fausellas. He later decided to exhibit his work at various galleries, having now staged over 80 exhibitions at which he has shown over two thousand oil paintings, water colours and posters.

The main feature of his oil-painting works lies in their hyperrealism and the artist’s use of a rigorous academic technique. Taking that relationship as a base, and incorporating a balance of shapes and hues, a self-created code of setting and chromatism has been constructed that renders the oneiric or subconscious vision of the landscapes homogeneous. A self-taught creator, Fausellas shows a marked preference for surrealism, applying metaphysical projections and Dalinian connotations to his themes, with one direct strand to nature itself and firm roots in the surrealism of the Empordà region of Catalonia.
